No Ghosts, But Plenty of Creatures In Da’ Swamp of South Louisiana

The TomsMaHauL crew (family) prepares to board Cajun Man’s Swamp Tour boat, south of Morgan City, Louisiana
Tom & Billy Gaston in the photo. A great (& excited) crowd on the boat, and Billy let each one hold a baby gator that hangs around the Cajun Man Swamp Tour boarding area.

There are TV shows that reveal some of the area around Morgan City, Louisiana, including Swamp People & Ghosts of Morgan City. Tom’s personal view on paranormal activity? “If someone believes that they’ve seen ghosts, then I can believe that they believe what they saw, but personally, I haven’t recognized any paranormal activity in my life (that I’m aware of)…yet.” Being on the swamp in the Morgan City area, though, we have witnessed plenty of exciting wildlife and activity.

Many enjoyed feeding the wild gators in the deep south Louisiana swamp. Tim & his fiance’, Missy, had an exciting time taking a shot at coaxing a gator to take a bite. We’re glad that Missy’s engagement ring was securely attached to her finger.

We enjoyed Cajun Man’s Swamp Tours & Adventures. Boat captain, Billy Gaston, had excellent Cajun music playing, as we rode his 49-passenger vessel through some of the most beautiful swamps and bayous that Louisiana has to offer. There were some hungry alligators while on that adventure. We enjoyed the view of bald eagles, too! Mr. Gaston is a great swamp guide & boat captain, and has plenty of knowledge to share about the REAL swamp life in the region. You’ll, certainly, learn some things that you didn’t know before. We, highly, recommend Cajun Man’s Swamp Tour. If you’re ever south of Lafayette in the Morgan City area, nearby Gibson, Louisiana isn’t far away. Just down the road. Before you know it, you’re in the swamp. Since we’re fans of local & regional music and our area’s talented musicians (performing all genres of music), we want to mention the great song that Billy recorded with a band, as Billy played the song for us over the boat p.a. system during the return trip to dock. Captain Gaston & band have some EXCELLENT Cajun-flavor music! Watch Billy Gaston’s great video of “Da’ Cajun Man” song, along with better photos along ‘da bayous & swamps, at Cajun Man’s Swamp Tours & Adventures facebook HERE.

Billy hollers out to the gators (calling each of them by their given name), and they come to visit and get a treat.
“GOOT-GAWD-O-MIGHTEE!!!” says Tom, when a swamp gator approached to rise up and say “hello”. These are wild alligators, and our swamp guide seemed to know them, personally.
In the swamp, we couldn’t capture the best view with cell phone cameras, but our eyes saw the amazing beauty of the American Bald Eagle. Can you spot the bald eagle? You can get distracted by the beautiful hanging Spanish Moss, but look to the upper-right of the photo. We saw 2 American Bald Eagles. Momma eagle was protecting the young, and Daddy eagle was keeping an eye on us, as we passed under the nest area. These Eagles mate for life.
It’s believed that Justin is pointing and saying “What the hell is that?!” Tim is, likely, responding “It’s you, brother. It’s your reflection. That’s what you look like.”
Our son, Tim, along with with his Dad, get in some south Louisiana studio time, during this journey. Tim & Tom don’t get to play music together often, but this time was well spent & enjoyable. Father-son time is always well spent. Tom played, and attempted to sing, “Jambalaya” as well as playing a few blues songs.
Just one more look through the swamp.

A few more photos from a past journey to this region…along with a bonus “just for the heck of it” photo…

Teri on the dock in Morgan City, sitting on a gator that was just brought in from a hunt. Teri even opened the jaws of that beast.
Tom with alligators that were brought in from the swamps to Morgan City after a hunt.
Standing on the flood wall, Teri gets a photo of festival down below. We came down from the flood wall to get in some dancing time & enjoy the festival in Morgan City.
There are times when we don’t take life so dang seriously. Just for the heck of it, how about a goofy birthday photo? On Tom’s forehead – is that a piece of confetti, or a band-aid? It’s not believed that Tom’s razor drifts that high from his chin, unless he fell asleep while shaving that morning. Seriously.
