Vermont – New Hampshire- Massachusetts

A beautiful area of our nation

After riding the Stowe Mountain SkyRide gondola to the top of Mt. Mansfield (Vermont’s highest mountain), and after enjoying lunch at the Cliff House Restaurant, a selfie photo is taken. The view from this mountain is amazing, and it’s said that several states can be seen atop this mountain on a clear day.

Our Louisiana family has made several trips to Vermont to visit family in that region of the country. We’ve traveled through Massachusetts & New Hampshire as well. We’ve been to the NASCAR races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. We’ve visited family in a cabin in the mountains of New Hampshire. We’ve visited burial sites of Tom’s grandparents in the Adams, Massachusetts area. Driving the Mohawk Trail in Massachusetts is very enjoyable with scenic views. Driving through New Hampshire’s mountainous area, and exploring around Lake Winnpesauke was fun time.

We took an early Friday cruise through the hills of Vermont, and tried “creemees” (soft ice cream cones). We stopped at Bragg Farm Sugarhouse and Gift Shop for a creemee, and then tried a creemee at nearby Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks. The ice cream (creemee) cones had “maple dust” sprinkled over them. Vermont maple syrup is known around the nation, as being among the best. We bought several bottles of Vermont maple syrup, that returned to Louisiana with us.
The Capitol Theater is across the street from the Capitol Plaza Hotel & Conference Center (where we’ve stayed several times). We’ve walked across the street from the hotel, to enjoy some of the latest popular movies at that theater. It is the only time each year, that we enjoy theater movies.

Home base has always been Montpelier, Vermont, where we’ve enjoyed time with family in that area. Montpelier is the least populated state capital in the United States. While we’re in Montpelier, we stay in the beautiful Capitol Plaza Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton in the downtown district and enjoy time with family in the area. We recommend this hotel, when ever you visit this region. The Capitol Plaza Hotel is centrally located within walking distance of the The Vermont State House (capitol building), downtown shops, entertainment venues, restaurants, grocery store, pharmacy & more. There is the town’s movie theater – Capitol Theater, right across the street from the Capitol Plaza Hotel. The theater has the latest popular movies. The service at the Capitol Plaza Hotel is always great, and the hotel’s restaurant, J. Morgan’s Steakhouse, is a multi award winning restaurant & great place to start the day with an excellent breakfast. We’ve enjoyed delicious chef prepared lunches and dinners there, too. They have a fully stocked bar, with great service and it’s a great place to meet up with friends & family.

Tom at the Vermont State House (state capital building), which is within walking distance of the Capitol Plaza Hotel. Montpelier is the least populated state capital in the U.S. New England is a beautiful part of our nation, and we were happy to return.
Photo of Teri @ The The Skinny Pancake-Montpelier Vermont, where we enjoyed a great breakfast & conversation with cousin Richard. It was a beautiful, cool, morning. After breakfast, we did a Trippin’ w/ Tom & Teri stroll around town to explore some shops and… Tom needed to stop in at a downtown drug store to get some razors (because he forgot to bring some) for his morning shaves.
Our youngest son, Tim, enjoying the wonderful fruit water from the Capitol Plaza Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton hotel lobby, while he steps outside to look around the neighboring area.
Teri captured a photo of Tom with a catamount (large wild cat, or panther) that was on display in the Vermont History Museum in Montpelier. This museum was packed with very informative and interesting displays.

We usually visit this region, every other year, around the Independence Day holiday & enjoy the weather, as it is not near as hot and humid as it is back home in The Sportsman’s Paradise (North Louisiana).
Vermont maple syrup is some of the best maple syrup in the world, and the locally made Cabot cheese, is superb!

Tom appears to be in a euphoric state of mind, at the Ben & Jerry’s Euphoric Stuff ice cream display. We stopped for the tour of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream factory, on our way to Stowe, Vermont.
Ben & Jerry completed a correspondence course in ice cream making at Pennsylvania State University & started out serving their ice cream from the bus in 1978 in Burlington, Vermont. The main ice cream factory is now located in Waterbury, Vermont, and is a popular spot for tourists in the region.
Wait just a minute! That’s not Ben & Jerry. That looks like Tom & Teri.
Once we passed through Stowe, Vermont, we arrived at the Gondola SkyRide which takes visitors to the highest mountain in Vermont – Mt. Mansfield. Our view, looking back, as we rode the gondola to the top of the mountain.
We’re excited by the incredible view, as we ride up the side of Mt. Mansfield in the gondola. It’s said that on a clear day, after reaching the top of the mountain, several states can be seen. Once we arrived at the top of the mountain, we enjoyed a lunch in the Cliff House Restaurant.
Tom takes a break, after the gondola return trip down Mt. Mansfield. Tom is “representing” Louisiana, as he wears his LSU shirt.
While driving the highways in the Vermont, New Hampshire & Massachusetts area, Teri enjoyed taking photos of the mountainous views.

This region is known as an excellent place for snow skiing during the winter season. There are many snow ski resorts throughout this entire region. We’ve never been during the snow skiing season. The Fall months are noted for the colorful trees during the season.
