Monroe & West Monroe, Louisiana

  • Biedenharn Museum and Gardens: Coca Cola museum – House & Garden Tour –
  • West Monroe Shopping
  • Duck Commander (where “Duck Dynasty” TV series filming took place)
  • Revolution Park Racing & Entertainment Complex & nearby Chatham Speedway

We have made several rv trips to the Monroe/West Monroe Louisiana area. When we’ve been in this area, we’ve, mostly, stayed at Pavillion RV Park (West Monroe). One other time, when attending a stock car race at Revolution Park, we stayed at Ouachita RV Park, which is within a half mile from the race track. Both, Pavilion RV Park & Ouachita RV Park offered full-hookups (power, water, sewer). Our experiences at Pavilion RV Park have been good over the years. Doing an online search, you’ll find that there are other RV parks in the area, including Jimmy Davis State Park near Chatham, Louisiana. We’ve also RVed on the grounds at Chatham Speedway, when attending some race weekends there. We’ve, often, thought about attending a ULM (University of Louisiana Monroe) Warhawks football game, but haven’t managed to do that, yet. We’ll never forget the year that ULM defeated Coach Nick Saban & the Alabama Crimson Tide football team, which lead Alabama to end their season at the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Beidenharn Museum & Gardens (Monroe, Louisiana)

The Biedenharn Museum & Garden is located in Monroe’s Garden District.
A Trippin’ With Tom & Teri selfie in one of the many large garden areas.
The garden provides for a very enjoyable time to stroll the grounds.
Various types of flowers, trees and other plants in this beautiful garden.
Several thousand flowering plants, as well as sculptural embellishments from around the world, are nestled into the landscape surrounding the Biedenharn estate. The Conservatory is patterned after fine English glasshouses and is home to thousands of tropical and semi-tropical specimens.
The early 1900s house on the property is HUGE, and has many items and decorations from the time that the home was built.
Joseph A. Biedenharn, the first bottler of Coca-Cola, built his home in Monroe, Louisiana, in 1914. Young and old can connect to the gracious life of his daughter Emy-Lou through guided tours of the house. The rooms are exhibited as they were lived in, reflecting the eclectic taste of a well-traveled woman. In the furnishings and accessories, one will see Emy-Lou’s love of music, nature and family.
Next to the garden and home, is the Coca-Cola Museum. Have a nickel handy. We enjoyed a Coca Cola from the original 5-cent soda machine,
There are many Coca-Cola memorabilia and historical items including a collection of vintage signs and a Model T Coca-Cola delivery truck. There is also a demonstration of the original bottling process. The exhibits come to life in a replica soda fountain where a friendly soda jerk relates the fascinating story of the man who put Coca-Cola in a bottle for the first time — “Mr. Joe” Biedenharn.

Duck Commander/Buck Commander (West Monroe, Louisiana)

Photo of Duck Commander wine, which is available in many regional stores. Duck Commander store & tour are in West Monroe. This is where the hit TV series “Duck Dynasty” was based, and many scenes were filmed in this location (as well as other areas around this region).
In the bakery areas of many stores throughout the Sportsman’s Paradise (North Louisiana), Miss Kay’s cakes are available. Miss Kay Robertson has spent her whole life gaining a well-deserved reputation for being a talented cook and homemaker. In the West Monroe/Monroe area, many people stop and eat at Miss Kays Sweets & Eats .
The Robertson family, and Duck Commander, have supported & sponsored many events throughout North Louisiana, as well as a NASCAR race weekend at Texas Motor Speedway (near Fort Worth, Tx). Tom has many caps & hats, and added a Duck Commander 500 cap to his cap collection.

We’ve enjoyed browsing the stores in Antique Alley in West Monroe. There are many interesting stores, with more than just antiques. This area is where Teri bought a Halloween costume in a store that was full of various costumes for sale and rent.

We’ve dined at various locally owned restaurants in this area, including Enoch’s Irish Pub & Grill, Waterfront Grill, Roma Italian Bistro & Warehouse No 1 Restaurant. Many of those establishments also offered local band entertainment (we’re fans of local bands). We’ve enjoyed the dining experiences at each of those restaurant/pubs. During a visit to this area some years ago, we took the time to stroll through the Pecanland Mall in Monroe (largest mall in North Louisiana).

There are many Historical sites in this region, as well as museums, winery & local breweries. A great source for things-to-do in the Monroe/West Monroe area HERE
