Texas Motor Speedway – NASCAR Racing

Over the years, we’ve attended NASCAR races at Talladega Superspeedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Daytona International Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway & other tracks, but the track that we’ve visited the most is Texas Motor Speedway.

Teri snapped photos of a lot of racers during the race weekend, including #4 Kevin Harvick rolling out for NASCAR Cup practice.
Teri’s first lap video – As soon as Sammy Hagar finished performing “I Can’t Drive 55” on grandstand stage, the cars were coming out of turn 4 and taking the green flag to start the NASCAR All-Star race. Perfect!
After winning a Texas Motor Speedway NASCAR Cup playoff race, Teri captured a video of Kyle Larson’s victory burnout for the fans.

During one of our many Texas Motor Speedway RV journeys, we took the time to drive the Jeep 20 miles west to Aurora, Texas. In the late 1800s, it was reported in the Dallas-Fort Worth newspapers, that an UFO crashed into a windmill on a farm in Aurora.

Across from Texas Motor Speedway, is one of the largest Buc’ee’s locations. Buc’ee’s are HUGE stores with so much to offer, and have large lanes to fuel the TomsMaHauL motorhome. Before going to our TMS RV spot, Tom fills the motorhome with fuel, because our on-board generator runs off of the gas from the motorhome fuel tank, and we’ll put 50+ hours on our generator during our stay at TMS. Once inside, Tom spotted some Buc’ee’s Christmas sweaters on sale.
Tom will tell you that he “digs old trucks”, and had Teri take a photo at this display in Buc’ee’s near Texas Motor Speedway.

Roanoke, Texas, is just 15 minutes from our RV spot at Texas Motor Speedway. We’ve been to Roanoke many times, during our Texas Motor Speedway stays, and each time that we visit Roanoke, we notice more shops, restaurants, apartments and huge city hall that have been added to the area.

We decided to gather for dinner at Hard Eight BBQ in Roanoke, Texas. In the photo, Tom is texting some friends to meet up with us.
We enjoyed the Saturday night “Shindig” (free party that the track provided for the fans in the RV campground). Several bands & musicians, free food & beverages, prize giveaways and race drivers on stage to answer questions from the fans.
While at the Texas Motor Speedway free Saturday night Shindig for the fans, Tom went to get a free burger and drinks. When it took awhile for Tom to return, Teri noticed why. Tom will talk to anyone that will listen.

The Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track has, also, featured sprint car races Thursday and Friday nights, presented by NASCAR legend, Tony Stewart. The dirt track races are exciting and the program runs smoothly with races ending by 10 o’clock each night. Friday afternoons, we roll in the Jeep down to the infield and attended some of the driver Q&A sessions in the TMS Media Center.

In the TMS Media Center, Tom checks out the trophies that would be award to the Saturday NASCAR Xfinity & Sunday NASCAR Cup winners. The winners also fire off some 6-shooters in Victory Lane.
While in the TMS Media Center, Teri gets a photo of her favorite driver, Martin Truex Jr., as Martin discusses how the team’s crew chief has had a positive affect on his career. Interesting question & answer session!
About a half hour after Martin Truex Jr.’s appearance in the TMS Media Center, Martin was pulling out onto the track for a NASCAR Cup practice session.

We’ve always enjoyed being on pit road for the NASCAR Xfinity and Cup practice sessions. We also walked from the infield to the grandstand area through the walk-through tunnel.

A Tom & Teri selfie is taken in the walk-through tunnel that passes under the track, while the cars are practicing over us.
At this point of the season, there were only 8 drivers remaining that could race for the NASCAR Cup championship, and Tom points out that Teri’s favorite driver is ranked at the top of the list.

Each day while at the track, Teri handled some work duties on her computer in the RV, and Tom flagged down one of the water supply trucks, to add water to our fresh water tank (after being there since Tuesday and using our onboard water for showers and other needs).

Photo of Trippin’ w/ Tom & Teri at our Texas Motor Speedway RV spot. We’ve camped in other areas on the track property, until we found the perfect spot (which was home-base for a few decades).
A paparazzi photographer spotted Tom discussing the finer points of auto racing with NASCAR star Kurt Busch in the grocery department of a local retail store near Texas Motor Speedway
When the tram stopped near our TMS camping spot, Teri snaps a photo of Tom with the bus monitor. We should say “tram monitor”. The tram monitor makes sure that riders board and unload with no issues. The monitor is a retired school teacher, who, at one time, taught the young lady that is driving the tractor that is pulling the tram. The tram rides can be quite entertaining once it has rolled through the campgrounds and is packed with race fans.

On the day of the big race, Teri makes breakfast at the motorhome, and then we catch the tram to the gate near our seats for the NASCAR Cup pre-race concert while enjoying the activites on the track, which included the driver introductions, pre-race Pledge of Allegiance, pre-race prayer, sky-divers bringing in the American Flag and National Anthem. We’ve seen Barksdale Air Force Base (La) B52s, Air Force fighter jets & other military planes do inspiring flyovers after the National Anthem performances.

During Sunday’s driver introductions, we noticed that the most cheers were for #9 Chase Elliott (son of NASCAR legend “Awesome Bill from Dawsonville”-Bill Elliott). In Dawsonville, Georgia, every time that Chase wins a race at any track, a siren blares in town (Dawsonville).
While Teri was roaming around visiting with some TomsMaHauL race fans, she stopped to snap a photo of the pre-race concert on the track stage & broadcast on the Texas Motor Speedway Big Hoss TV (the world’s largest big screen TV).

Then, it’s race time! We have our headphones on during the race, tuned into our favorite race teams & their strategy, as well as the broadcast on Big Hoss TV (the world’s largest HD television) that covers a large section above the “back-stretch”.

During an All-Star race night, the Texas Motor Speedway drones did several, different, designs above the track. In this photo, the drones were displaying 6 shooters. The winners of the races, each, shoot off a pair of 6 shooter pistols in Victory Lane.
Teri captured many photos of the drones displaying messages to the race fans, following one of the Texas Motor Speedway All-Star racing events. We’ve always felt that the track has appreciated the fans, during our 25 years of being season ticket holders.
After arriving in our Texas Motor Speedway rv spot & unhooking the Jeep from the motorhome, Tom drove Teri to a birthday dinner in nearby Roanoke at Reno Red’s Frontier Cooking restaurant. Photo at a huge wall of paintings & photos in the restaurant. For several years, we’ve also spent our wedding anniversaries, enjoying formal meals and awards ceremonies in the Texas Motor Speedway Speedway Club (over-looking the track and property).
At the end of racing, we catch the tram back to our TomsMaHauL.com Texas Motor Speedway RV spot. We’ve enjoyed some fun conversations among race fans during the tram ride. Once we are back at the motorhome, and after an enjoyable supper that has prepared, we watch the sunset around the track.
