Beavers Bend/Broken Bow Oklahoma

Beavers Bend State Park (Oklahoma) has a lot to offer. Cabins, RV spots + tent areas, along with a wonderful nature center. We enjoyed an exciting canoe outing on the rapids of the Mountain Fork River. The, beautiful, Broken Bow Lake is nearby. There are canoe/kayak/paddleboat rentals within minutes of the park. We weren’t far from a go kart track. There was horseback riding nearby. We enjoyed a huge classic car show, with a live band, at the park near our campsite. The, nearby, town of Hochatown has restaurants, bars, brewery, winery, shopping & more.

While were were on our way to Broken Bow & Beavers Bend, we, carefully, crossed the Red River (that separates Texas with Southeast Oklahoma). The Red River had been experiencing severe flooding in areas, and a day after we crossed that Red River bridge, it was closed (due to flooding). It was a crazy feeling while crossing that bridge, with the rapidly flowing river just a few feet below the bridge road. We were in our motorhome, pulling the Jeep, and Tom got “up on the wheel” (steering wheel) and mashed the gas pedal, while looking straight ahead, until we made it to the Oklahoma side of the river.

Upon arriving at our RV spot at Beavers Bend State Park, we noticed the sign that warned of, possible, rapid rise in the Mountain Fork River. Our RV spot was just 15 yards from that river. During our stay, the river started rising quickly, as the sirens (horns) were blaring. This situation occurred two different times, during our 4 day/night stay. The sirens woke us up a few times, as the river seemed to only rise early in the morning. We thought that must be when they opened the Broken Bow Lake’s dam flood gates. We kept an eye on the river, and were ready to go, but the water never got any higher than a certain level (& the warning horn sounds stopped).
We enjoyed hiking on one of the many trails in the park area, where Tom had a wild encounter with a flying snake. Teri, still, laughs about it, when she tells her “Tom vs Snake” story.
The Beavers Bend State Park Nature Center was an eduacational time, and Tom bought a Beavers Bend camo cap in the nature center store. We have caps, or mugs, from just about every TomsMaHauL journey that we take.
Tom, often, tells folks that he has reptilian tendencies. During our stay at Beavers Bend, we took a Jeep ride to, nearby, Hochatown, and enjoyed a great pizza dinner (w/ live music) on the patio at the Grateful Head Pizza Oven & Beer Garden restaurant. Next to the restaurant patio was a store that had many, different, items for shoppers. That’s where Tom found the lizard glasses (in the photo). Teri bought a blueberry flavored lady’s cigar in the store’s humidor area. Upon returning to the TomsMaHauL motorhome, Teri puffed on her cigar, while we sat on the Mountain Fork River bank. Several raccoons were getting closer and closer (within 5 feet) to us in our chairs, and Tom threw rocks at them. That kept the raccoons away from Teri (who decided to put out her cigar & stand behind Tom).

We’re going through our files, and will add more photos & information, plus we’ll add to this page, the next time that we journey to Beavers Bend, Broken Bow Lake & Hochatown.
