LSU Football season is always when memories are made. Our road trips to some LSU home games in Baton Rouge, have always resulted in good memories.
Our oldest son made a video – Justin’s video with the LSU band will get ya’ fired up for GEAUX-TIME!!!
The last time that our family was a part of an LSU road trip journey, had Tom spending a Monday afternoon checking the motorhome systems and other preparations. The family would, all, be meeting up at the motorhome around lunch on Thursday, to enjoy the ride south to Baton Rouge.
Our sons and their ladies enjoyed the ride, watching the motorhome TV and groovin’ to the tunes. Tim & Justin were the DJs, playing our song requests from their phones over the coach sound system. I-49 to Opalousas was a smooth ride, but Hwy 190 to Baton Rouge can be a bit bumpy in some areas. Be advised to drive the speed limit on Highway 190. Tom’s eyes are always on the road ahead, especially in the congested Baton Rouge traffic. Tom is fully aware, that there is precious cargo onboard the TomsMaHauL motorhome.
When we go to the LSU home games, we’ve stayed at the Baton Rouge KOA in Denham Springs, Louisiana. We’ve always experienced a friendly welcome at the registration desk. They offer full hookups. (incuding cable), swimming pool, hot tub/sauna, minature golf & other amenities that we’ve taken advantage of. There’s a Bass Pro Shops around the corner.
We spent Friday, loading into the Jeep (that we pull behind the motorhome) to go explore the sites, including a visit to the Louisiana State Capitol building. It is the tallest state capitol building in the U.S. and the view from the top is great on a clear day. On the main floor of the building, between the chambers, you can find the bullet holes in the wall in the location where “The Kingfish”, Huey Long, was gunned down in 1935?
A lunch break on Friday was spent at the legendary TJ Ribs , where LSU’s first Heisman Trophy (1959-Billy Cannon) is on display. The ribs are always excellent with very good service. There is now a statue of Billy Cannon near Death Valley.
Family has also explored the beautifully restored Old Louisiana State Capitol building.
Some of the family let us know that the time was “beer:30”. We went to Tin Roof Brewing near the LSU campus, where some of the family enjoyed beer as we watched RVers roll to their season RV spots on the campus.
Saturday is always game day. While on the campus, we found our reserved tailgating spot.
As it was getting closer to game time, we started our stroll towards Tiger Stadium (popularly knows as Death Valley).
Watching the LSU band march to the stadium with the players is usually where we end up, as the excitement builds for the game. Justin’s exciting LSU Band video HERE
